Jorge Lorenzo to make Race of Champions debut

Newly-crowned MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo will make his Race of Champions debut in this year's Bangkok event

The Yamaha rider sealed his second title last weekend at Phillipp Island, finishing second to runaway victory Casey Stoner. He has finished either first or second in every race of 2012 bar one, when he was taken out at the first corner.

Lorenzo, who was also champion in 2010, will carry out demonstration runs on his Yamaha bike alongside competing in the Thailand event on 14-16 December.

"2012 has been a fantastic year for me and I can't think of a better way to finish it off than by taking on the world's best drivers at the Race Of Champions," Lorenzo said.

"It will be a pleasure to share such a fantastic race with some of the best drivers in the world.

"It will clearly be a challenge to take them on at their own game but I'll do my best to get the most out of the extra pair of wheels.

"With Mick Doohan in the field, we will both be aiming to show we can do very well on four wheels too. I hope the public enjoy it and have fun with all of us!"

In addition to retired motorcycle legend Doohan, Sebastian Vettel, Michael Schumacher, 2012 IndyCar champion Ryan Hunter-Reay and David Coulthard will all be competing.
