Carlin appeal against Jack Harvey's Silverstone time penalty to be heard on Wednesday
Carlin's appeal into Jack Harvey's time penalty from the British Formula 3 International Series round at Silverstone is to be heard this Wednesday, ensuring that the title will be decided on-track at Donington Park this weekend
Harvey finished second on the road in race two at Silverstone, but a 30-second time penalty for his part in a collision with Pipo Derani as they battled for the lead relegated him to 12th in the results.
If the Motor Sports Association accepts the appeal, Harvey will move to within six points of his championship-leading team-mate Jazeman Jaafar, and will be three points behind second-placed Fortec Motorsport driver Felix Serralles.
If the appeal is rejected, Englishman Harvey will enter the Donington weekend 23 points down on Malaysian Jaafar, and 17 behind Puerto Rican Serralles.
"We're prepared for the situation off-track," said Harvey. "But to be honest I'm putting that to one side. However the hearing turns out we'll deal with what we've got.
"I've been in better situations going into a race weekend, but I've been in worse too.I've experienced a lot in my career, and this will all help me in the future. I've got nothing to lose this weekend, so I'll be pushing hard to make every point count."
Team chief Trevor Carlin admitted that the sympathies of F3 followers would likely be with Serralles, who could become the first non-Carlin driver to claim the title since Marko Asmer in 2007.
"It's good for British F3 that there's been a battle between two teams for the title, and the addition of [live] TV coverage this weekend will bring additional publicity to the fight," he said.
"Having won the championship for the past four seasons, it's probably fair to say that Carlin aren't the favourites [with the crowd] to win, but that prejudice shouldn't be placed on Jazeman or Jack, who have each put in a fantastic performance this season and deserve a shot at the title on their own merit."
