Hungary F2: Kevin Mirocha takes maiden pole for first race

Kevin Mirocha secured his maiden Formula 2 pole position in qualifying for the first race of the weekend in Hungary

In a session where the top three were covered by a mere 0.125 seconds, the Pole just edged out championship challengers Markus Pommer and Matheo Tuscher to take the top spot.

After topping both the Friday practice sessions fourth place was all that Alex Fontana could manage, affected by a string of yellow flags around the circuit, with Mihai Marinescu in fifth place.

Dan McKenzie and Luciano Bacheta set identical laptimes on the way to sixth and seventh places respectively.

Bacheta can mathematically secure the title this weekend, but that will be a tall order from seventh on the grid, meaning the championship fight will most likely be decided at the final round in Monza at the end of September.

Christopher Zanella saved a set of new tyres for the race, which may help him progress forward from eighth place. Axcil Jefferies and Hector Hurst completed the top 10.
