F2 Hungaroring: Alex Fontana sets pace in first practice

Alex Fontana set the fastest time of the opening Formula 2 practice session at the Hungaroring on Friday morning

The Swiss/Greek driver only needed one run to outpace Kevin Mirocha by 0.2 seconds, thanks to his table-topping time of 1m34.787s.

After Thursday's pre-event test, there was not much impetus for drivers to take to the circuit; Daniel McKenzie being the only man to set a meaningful time inside the opening 10 minutes.

Eventually the front runners took to the track with Mihai Marinescu going fastest before ultimately dropping to third.

After going fastest in the test, Christopher Zanella ended the session in fourth position ahead of Markus Pommer and Matheo Tuscher.

Axcil Jefferies put in one of his strongest performances of the season so far with seventh quickest, just ahead of Luciano Bacheta, who could wrap up the championship this weekend, but is yet to show any signs of real pace so far.

McKenzie wound up ninth ahead of David Zhu, with debutant Richard Gonda ending the session 12th quickest.
