Spa GP2: Felipe Nasr says he could've won had he passed James Calado sooner

The Brazilian, who is the reigning British Formula 3 champion, took advantage of fresher Pirelli tyres to make an audacious move on rival Calado stick on the exit of the Bus Stop chicane on the last lap.

"I think if I could have passed James with three laps to go, I definitely would have caught Kral," Nasr said.

"I realised early in the race that I didn't have the pace to stay with the leaders early on, probably because of set-up.

"So I decided to focus on saving my tyres, based on what I'd learned in yesterday's race [where he pulled off a similar move on Stephane Richelmi in the final stages].

"I concentrated on keeping my lines tight and not pushing until the last five laps, and then when my team told me when it was time to go, I increased my pace."

Nasr then engaged in a brilliant dice with Calado for second place that was only resolved on the last corner of the last lap.

"I could see James was in trouble with his tyres, but he is hard to pass. Hard, but fair. We were on the edge at times but he knows when to leave a gap for another car.

"In the end James braked late on the inside, so I went wide into the chicane to give myself an early exit, and when I saw him drift wide I went for the gap. It was a great pass to pull off."
