Baltimore Indy Lights: Tristan Vautier leads all-Schmidt front row

Tristan Vautier took pole position in a shortened Indy Lights qualifying session in Baltimore

The French rookie was leading the field with a best lap of 1m23.6893s when Emerson Newton-John crashed at the chicane, forcing the session to be flagged seven minutes early to allow the mess to be cleaned up.

Vautier's Schmidt team-mate and current points leader Esteban Guerrieri was second-fastest at the time the session was stopped, although he was 0.8 seconds down.

Andretti's Sebastian Saavedra was third-quickest alongside team-mate Carlos Munoz.

Newton-John was the second driver to be caught out by the new chicane, with Peter Dempsey having glanced the wall earlier on, although the Irishman was able to get his car back to the pits.
